Future Plans

One of the things I’ve been focusing on in my life is retiring. When can I do it, when will I have enough money, when will it be right for me? After crunching some numbers I can retire in 8 years, but I’m considering working an additional 2-3 years for some extra cushion. I’ve started following the FIRE (Financial Independence Retire Early) movement and focused a lot this year on saving and investing and continue to do so.

I have a financial investor that I’ve used and I will end that relationship to continue my own investment strategy. So what happens when I’m done working? When I retire, my kiddo will be around 13 and I think it will depend on where she’s at in life. If she wants to stay in where we’re at I’ll wait until she graduates, else, my intention is to geo-arbitrage.

I spent some time in Spain in November traveling around and looking for areas that may be of interest for me and came to the conclusion that I do not enjoy the food there enough for it to be a consideration. Other areas I’ll be exploring are Italy and Greece…or if I do end up with my cushion maybe I’ll just go to Ireland or London. I’ve always loved both areas and London always feels like home when I go. One thing is certain, I’m done owning a home and will be renting moving forward. I am also going to slow travel when I can. Maybe a couple of months in southeast Asia, a couple of months in Australia, Dubai, Turkey, Egypt, Israel, etc before I settle somewhere.

Things I need for it to work for me, there must be great public transportation, close to a major airport, excellent food options, and the cost of rent fits within my monthly requirements. I know London isn’t the cheapest of all my options, but it is a place I’ve always loved. In regards to my FI number, I’m 36% there.
